MISSION 5
Wizerness, France
May 3, 1944

The 2nd Division dispatched the only 8th Air Force planes for the day and then only by three Bomb Groups, the 44th 93rd and the 382nd. Take off was after the noon hour. The total number of planes was fewer than 50 all tolled of which 24 were 44th Bomb Group aircraft. Our particular target was a V-1 site near the railhead of Wizerness located 35 miles west of St. Omer, France. Bombing was by GH radar lead by Pathfinders from the 93rd Bomb Group.

There was no Luftwaffe opposition. However flak damaged 15 of our 24 planes but none so seriously that it could not be put back in action within 36 hours. No planes were lost by the 8th Air Force and only 3 air men were wounded.

Heavy cloud cover prevented an assessment of bombing results. We arrived back to base at 1715 hours (5:15 p.m.)
after 4 hours and 30 minutes of flying.
