Alaska
North to Denali

June 23, 2001

It was fascinating to observe the scenery as we were driving through the countryside - at 2AM.  It was dusk like, but still easy to view the surroundings.
There were very few cars out on the road, so we were able to stop on the bridge, take a quick picture, and jump back into the car.  This worked fine for this picture of the Susitna River.
However, some time later, we could see this mountain looming in front of us.  We were still 80 or so miles away from Mt. McKinley -
little did we know this was Mt. McKinley, but it was impressive enough to demand a photo.  We pulled over, I opened the car door, got out, and was surrounded by mosquitos - big time!  My hands were mosquito dinner - I couldn't hold the camera still long enough to take a picture!  Finally, I put on a long sleeve windbreaker and was able to take the picture.  Then it was back in the car.  But wait, there had to be a half dozen mosquitos that followed us back in the car.  We swatted them, somewhat in disbelief, and resumed our trip.  Many other of our "Denali" photos would follow this same pattern.
As we proceeded north, we found another picturesque stream that wanted to have its picture taken.
