Alaska
Denali -
A final view

June 23, 2001

Jim and Chuck Allan, Denali National Park, Alaska - 10 AM June 23, 2001
We had returned to one of our original destinations.  It was now 10 AM, and the light was quite different but the mountain was still awesome at 42 miles away.  While not crowded, travelers would wait their turn to get their photos in front of Denali, "The Great One,"  often taking photos for strangers so entire families could be in the photos.
The fellow sitting next to me on the plane flight from Atlanta, had lived in Alaska for several years.  He suggested some places to visit on the Kenai peninsula, but advised against spending the time to drive up to Denali, because, he said, "9 out of 10 days it is surrounded by clouds and you can't even see the mountain."  Well, we took our chances and we were very fortunate to have beautiful weather, and a chance to see for ourselves, one of the great wonders of Alaska.
Denali had been a wonderful experience - now, as we looked back at Denali for the final time, it was time to head back to Anchorage, and south to the Kenai Peninsula.
