Alaska
Longmere Lake
Bed & Breakfast

June 23, 2001

Longmere Lake Lodge, Soldotna, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska
One of Jim's co-workers suggested a Bed and Breakfast in Soldotna, a small town on the Kenai Peninsula.  Unfortunately, they were booked, but on the same web page, we found Longmere Lake Lodge, Bed and Breakfast, operated by Pat Dwinnell and her husband, Tom.
I spoke with Pat, and she was able to accommodate us for Saturday evening.  We arrived at 5 PM.
There are two buildings at this Bed and Breakfast.  Both have commanding views of the lake.  Behind the floor to ceiling windows above is where breakfast is served - very nice, I might add!  Waffles with fresh strawberries, vanilla sauce, maple syrup, cereal, bagels, English muffins, - you get the idea.
We stayed in the second building, shown immediately below.
We had the second floor, which enjoys the bedroom in the rear and a library with balcony overlooking the lake.
Since dinner time was approaching, I asked Pat if we should have a key to get back in after dinner.  "No," she said, "we don't lock the doors."
One of the things Jim remarked on, as did my wife Elaine and my daughter Lisa, after looking at these pictures, was how similar Longmere Lake Lodge is to a place we spent many vacations when our children were young, Birch Point Lodge, in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.  Below, is a view from the second floor balcony, overlooking Longmere Lake.
