Banff, Alberta

Banff, named for the Scottish town, is nestled in the Bow River Valley.  Entering town, a small roadside picnic area on the Bow River greets visitors - two legged and four legged - more on that later.
Banff is an upscale tourist town.  While some of the alpine architecture brings  Vail, Colorado to mind,
we think Banff is most reminiscent of Aspen, including its Hard Rock Cafe pictured in the left photo, upper left corner.
Banff is a bustling town, even in summer, the "off season."  For a small town, traffic can become congested
when all the tourists, like us, all decide to come to town at the same time.  The main road, Banff Avenue, is four lanes wide, plus a parking lane, and is lined with tourist shops and restaurants.  Pictured off in the distance is Mount Rundle.  We took the scenic ride up Mount Rundle and got a picture overlooking Banff.  The Bow River can be seen on the right.
