Yoho National Park

We got back on the Trans-Canada Highway and entered Yoho National Park, British Columbia, which sits on the western side of the Great Divide.
As we were traveling along, we came upon a scenic overlook.  There we found some information on the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railroad which took place in the late 1800s.  This part of the route was particularly difficult because of the steep grades which had to be conquered.
The grades for the railroad tracks in this area known as Kicking Horse Pass, were too steep for the trains to handle.
To circumvent this problem, a circular tunnel was constructed inside the mountain, so that the train goes in, circles like a cork screw, and comes back out in the same location – just higher up.  We heard a train whistle and waited for 15 minutes for a train to come out of the mountain, but it never came.  We gave up and settled for the lower photos of Kicking Horse Pass.
