Takkakaw Falls
Yoho National Park

A photo of Takkakaw Falls – with the sign.  I took the two pictures on the bottom.  The two pictures (left and below left) offer an interesting contrast on the effect of light in a photo.  While the waterfall initially captures the eye, take a look at the different colors of the rock face.  Also, to get an idea of the height of Takkakaw Falls and the magnitude of the mountain, take a look at the size of the fully grown pine trees on the top of the mountain.

Following a short hiking trail, you reach the base of Takkakaw Falls which flows into the Yoho River.  These waters, like so many others in the Canadian Rockies, are glacial runoff.  Looking closely at the water in the bottom of the picture, you can notice the milky blue color of the water.  What you can’t see is that the air temperature drops about 15 to 20 degrees in less than one quarter mile as a result of the icy cold glacial waters.
