Columbia Glacier

A little further up Icefields Parkway is the Columbia Glacier.  While not as large as the Athabasca, it’s none the less impressive.
Looking closely at the top photo, you can notice the blue color of the ice of the Columbia Glacier, caused by a combination of immense pressure and sediment imbedded in the ice.  The bottom photo offers an interesting perspective in the mass of the glacier, even at the top of a mountain.  One last item of note – the Athabasca and Columbia glaciers provide much of the water for western Canada.  The two glaciers feed rivers that empty into three oceans, the Arctic, Pacific, and Atlantic.
