Rockies Columbia Glacier |

A little further up Icefields Parkway is the Columbia Glacier. While not as large as the Athabasca, it’s none the less impressive. |

Looking closely at the top photo, you can notice the blue color of the ice of the Columbia Glacier, caused by a combination of immense pressure and sediment imbedded in the ice. The bottom photo offers an interesting perspective in the mass of the glacier, even at the top of a mountain. One last item of note – the Athabasca and Columbia glaciers provide much of the water for western Canada. The two glaciers feed rivers that empty into three oceans, the Arctic, Pacific, and Atlantic. |
