Elk

Elk were plentiful around Banff, but we didn’t see too many around Lake Louise.
As we approach Jasper, there are many more elk to be seen.  In the top picture, the elk’s head (which is facing to the right) blends into the background.  In the bottom photo, the same animal is munching on some fresh pine needles.  You can also notice the lower bark on the birch trees.  During the winter months, elk will eat the soft white bark – look how the color changes just about head high.
