Maligne River

The Maligne River, flowing through the virgin forest of Jasper National Park is a pretty sight from any angle, as in the left photo.  Below, it serves as an interesting backdrop to our rental vehicle, a Ford Expedition – described by some as an Explorer on steroids.
There's an interesting story about our Ford Expedition.  In 1997, the Expedition had just come out and they were quite popular.  We flew from Dallas to Calgary, and we went to pick up the rental vehicle.  It was the first time I had rented from National.  I walked into the garage rental desk and introduced myself to the agent, "Hello, I'm Charles Allan."
"Welcome to Calgary, Mr. Allan.  We have your vehicle right outside the door, a brand new Ford Expedition."
Good News!!  Another attendant quickly loaded our luggage in the back of the Expedition, while I signed the rental contract.  I must admit, I was quite impressed with the quick service and personal attention, especially since it was my first time renting with National.  The rental agent gave me the keys, directions, and wished me an enjoyable journey.
As I began to walk towards the door, the agent turned his attention to another customer who had just come in the door.
He greeted the agent, "Hello, here is my Premier Customer Card - my name is Charles Allan."
I looked at him, the agent looked at me, then at him, then at the brand new Ford Expedition...
I knew it was time to go - there was no way we were swapping the Expedition for a Ford Tempo.  In the Expedition, start engine, step on gas, adios. True story!
