The Lodge at Kananaskis

Our final home in Alberta was at The Lodge at Kananaskis.  This relatively recent addition to Canadian tourism was built in 1987 to support the 1988 Winter Olympics which were held in Calgary, about 60 miles to the east, while the downhill ski events were held in Kananaskis.

Complementing the alpine architecture were life-sized wooden carvings representing the native Indian population and the grizzly bear.  For a change of pace, carriage rides of the area were available.
We had a delightful view from our room, overlooking the hotel courtyard with the forest and mountains off in the distance.
