Arizona
Phoenix to Las Vegas
May 2001
This view afforded us our first glimpse of the Colorado River.  At this point, we and the river are downstream of the Grand Canyon and upstream of Lake Mead.  While not readily visible in the photo, there were recreational boats cruising the river which is quite placid at this point.  This landscape is again in stark contrast to the flat desert we have seen for much of our ride thru Arizona.
While out of sequence, these photos were captured before the one above.  As we were driving northwest, up ahead, the road curved,
and we could see a rather large bridge spanning a gorge.  This was the Burro Creek Bridge and the small stream of water below was Burro Creek.  The width of the stream bed indicates that during the spring runoff, this stream is much wider than it is in late May.  It is also amazing to think that this stream at one time, carved out this canyon, and in size, it is minuscule when compared to the Grand Canyon.
