Shuttle boat to beach island The Sonesta Resort has their own private island - a 10 minute boat ride from the hotel.  The shuttle boat runs every 20 minutes, and literally pulls into the lobby of the hotel to pick up passengers.  Ten minutes later, you are on their private island which has two beaches and also functions as a nature preserve.
Among the more interesting creatures are the iguanas.  These guys look like something you don't want to get near, but good news - they are herbivores - or vegetarians.  I caught a picture of one in a tree - one of my favorite photos.  At noon, the iguanas come to the boat dock where the hotel staff feeds them with lettuce and bread.
Iguana The three little vacationers  to the right will surely have a story for show and tell when they return to school. Kids feeding an iguana.
There are some prettier creatures that inhabit the island, including the flamingos shown below.
