Napa
Valley

June 2007

We stopped in the city of Napa and checked for local advice at the Tourism & Information Center. We received some good advice from one of the local residents. He also told us that the Napa Valley has some 450 wineries and most are open to the public - if the gate is open, drive in.
We found that most had signs with their hours posted and most offered free tours. They also have wine bars, souvenir shops, and wine shops.
Mumm Winery was recommended for the quality of its tour and it was a good choice.

Not Just Grapes -

We found that the wineries were more than just grapes - they were also picturesque and welcoming stops along the highway. Pictured left is one of the flower garden areas at the Mumm Winery that made it a pleasant place to wander the grounds.
We also found another winery that had picnic tables available for tourists and virtually every winery had a wine tasting room of some sort.
