Colorado
May 2001
Among my other activities, I wanted to transfer the digital photos from my camera down to my laptop PC.  I would be spending some significant time in airports and on airplanes the next day, and I thought if I could get the photos on the PC, I could make some good use of that time.
I stopped at the local library but I couldn't install the necessary software on their machines.  However, the librarian directed me to a convenient Internet Cafe on Main Street.
After transferring the photos to the PC, it was time for lunch.  I thought I'd try some local fare, so I asked the clerk at the Internet Cafe for a recommendation.  She offered several along Main Street, including the one pictured above and to the right - "Old Timers."
It was a good recommendation - plenty of local ambiance and good food.  I was momentarily scared when I read the back of my waitress's shirt:  "We cheat drunks and tourists."  She assured me it was a joke - but I counted my change.
Among my pleasant experiences in Durango was the fact that pedestrians have the right of way at intersections.  When you go to cross the street, the traffic stops.  Wonderfully pleasant - road courtesy instead of road rage.  Actually, this presented a small problem.  I was standing on the corner of the intersection trying to get a photo of "Old Timers," waiting for the traffic to pass so I could have an unobstructed view.  But, every time a driver would see me, they would stop in the intersection, and motion for me to cross.  However, I didn't want to cross, I wanted them to move on, so I would motion for them to keep going.  Kind of like the cartoons...
