Pike's Peak. Elaine has always had a claim to fame with Pike's Peak. She went to school with a girl, Jeanne Pike, whose Great, great, great grandfather was Zebulon Pike, founder of the mountain that bears his name. (If you don't believe it, she'll show you her high school yearbook.) This picture was taken on our first day near the U.S. Air Force Academy.

This view was taken Tuesday by a telephoto lens as we were driving south from Denver to Colorado Springs.

This view was also from our hotel room in Colorado Springs early Wednesday morning. The road from the entrance gate to the summit of Pike's Peak is 19 miles - the sign says to allow a minimum of two hours to make the trip. This is a clue to what lies ahead.
