![]() Carlisle - northern England |
It had been a long day, starting early in Cambridge, traveling the back roads to Shipdham with additional country trails through the midlands of England. It was getting late so we decided to find a hotel in Carlisle, just about as far north in England as you can go before crossing the Scottish border. In the morning, we started out another delightful weather day observing the ancient fortifications of Carlisle. |

At this point, I've actually skipped
a day - we've been to Lochwinnoch and I've dropped Jim off in
Edinburgh, and I've proceeded to Carnoustie, Scotland, to play
another round of golf at one of The Open Championship courses.
Unfortunately, the weather has turned bad. I seriously debated
whether I should even play, but decided to see what I could endure.
It was rainy and not wanting to damage my camera, I left it in
the car. Of course, by the third hole, the rain stopped - good
for golf, bad for lack of photos - but still an enjoyable round
on a long course. |

Now, we come to the fork in the road. The adventures I skipped over, overlap some of the places I visited in 2001, so I've decided to just update those web pages with the additional materials. Those sites are Lochwinnoch and Cupar, which you can click on below - actually from any of the screens on this England / Scotland web site. There are a few new pictures and definitely some new stories to go along with them, so please take the time to enjoy these additions. As always, it's been a pleasure sharing my travels with you - I hope you've found this virtual tour enjoyable. Stop back from time to time, I'm always updating the travel web site. Best wishes,
