England
Windemere

July, 2001

Britain is very accommodating to tourists.  Every town of any size has a Tourist Information office where friendly local advice is readily available.  Need to know where to eat?  Need directions or reservations?
The Tourist Office is there to help - a very nice service that I would take advantage of throughout my journey.
The Tourist Office in Windemere suggested I might try a nearby hiking trail that provided a "mountain top" view of the lakes and surrounding countryside.  One of the delights of traveling England and Scotland is the beautiful and surprisingly pristine nature of the countryside.  After recently hiking out of the Grand Canyon, I was confident I could easily hike this local trail.  A short time later - maybe 15 minutes or so, I was at Orrest Head, looking out over the town, Lake Windemere, and the surrounding farmland.
Frankly, while the view was beautiful from the top, the walk up and down offered just as many scenic views as shown here.
