At the other end of the lake, I came upon the small town of Pooley Bridge.  Here you can see one of the local Tourist Information Offices which I described earlier. 
The photo at the left, taken from Pooley Bridge, shows local youngsters wading in the shallow stream which connects two lakes.  

With the stream in the back yards, the front yards supported the local business which catered to tourists, including small Tea Rooms, taverns, restaurants and the like.
    I continued on my back road pilgrimage, passing through Glenridding, and Ullswater, on the way to my next destination, Hadrian's Wall.
