Shipdham Memorials

In 1996, I met John McClane, a navigator with the 8th Air Force, who was stationed in Shipdham during World War II. His friendship and his journal inspired me to visit Shipdham and touch a piece of history.

In the churchyard, there are two memorials, one shown to the right and one shown below.

Memorial to the U.S. 8th Bomber Command in the churchyard at Shipdham, England.

A touching gesture of friendship - the churchyard memorials in Shipdham, England.

Like the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C., relatives and comrades still leave notes to the fallen at the Shipdham memorial.
