Windemere

July 2001

I had both heard and read about the Lake District as a holiday destination and that was to be the first place I would visit on this trip.  In a short time, I came to the village of Windemere - what could only be described as an idyllic town in the English countryside.
Windemere was the home to author Beatrix Potter, but there are many other attractions that make this such a pleasant place to be.  Lake Windemere is nearby and just browsing the town with all its quaint shops, narrow streets, and fantastic English gardens, made this an enjoyable experience.

I also had a very pleasant conversation with one of the local bed and breakfast innkeepers.  He offered some very good advice about the route to take to the next town - a more rural road that would provide an unspoiled view of the English countryside.
