Windemere July 2001 |

I had both heard and read about the Lake District as a holiday destination and that was to be the first place I would visit on this trip. In a short time, I came to the village of Windemere - what could only be described as an idyllic town in the English countryside. |
Windemere
was the home to author Beatrix Potter, but there are many other attractions
that make this such a pleasant place to be. Lake Windemere is nearby
and just browsing the town with all its quaint shops, narrow streets, and
fantastic English gardens, made this an enjoyable experience. |

I also had a very pleasant conversation with one of the local bed and breakfast innkeepers. He offered some very good advice about the route to take to the next town - a more rural road that would provide an unspoiled view of the English countryside.
