  St. Margaret's Chapel
"St. Margaret's Chapel is the oldest structure surviving from the medieval castle, built sometime between 1124 and 1153."  Today, the chapel is maintained by St. Margaret's Society, a group of ladies from Edinburgh, all whose given name is Margaret.
You'll have to forgive the crooked photo.  The wind was blowing, it was raining and with camera held high overhead, I gave it my best shot.  "Crown Square was created in the fifteenth century as the principal courtyard of the castle, and later became the residence  of the Stewart kings and queens.  It reached its peak of importance in the reign of Mary Queen of Scots, 1542 - 67.  The Crown Room on the first floor still houses the Honours of Scotland, the most ancient crown jewels surviving in the United Kingdom.  Beside them is the Stone of Destiny, returned to Scotland from Westminster Abbey, London, in 1996."

 Crown Square
It was approaching lunchtime, and I thought it interesting that I might walk and eat at the same places as ancient Scottish royalty.
 Cartshed
My plan was to visit the Cartshed, today serving as a tourist restaurant on the castle grounds, and then begin my journey south to Manchester, where I would catch a plane to the states the next day.  Off to lunch then to Manchester, or so I thought.
