We completed our westward drive through White
Mountain National Forest and were now heading north on New Hampshire State
Road 3 which runs parallel to I-93, and in some narrow areas of the valley,
the two roads merge into one. We stopped by one of the scenic turnouts,
and came upon the Old Man of the Mountain site. This is the state
symbol that was seen on the "Welcome to New Hampshire" road sign a few
pages back. Lower left, is a long distance view of the Old
Man of the Mountain, although the human eye can see it better than the
camera lens. A zoomed view shows the silhouette of the Old Man of
the Mountain contrasted against the gray clouds.
These photos were
taken just south of Franconia, New Hampshire.
