 Rocky Maine coast - Bush compound in the background. From the rocky coast to the wooded lakes to the home of a former president, Maine held a special attraction as Elaine and I set off for a weekend visit to see the changing color of the leaves, both in Maine and the neighboring state of New Hampshire.
We arrived late in the afternoon of Thursday, October 11, 2001, flying from our home in Jacksonville, Florida, through Atlanta and into Portland, Maine.  We only had about 2 hours of daylight left, so we decided to take a quick side trip about 20 miles southeast of Portland, along the Maine coast to the small town of Kennebunkport, home to the summer home of the senior President Bush.  The photo above is taken from the Atlantic shore, just south of the Bush compound, with the main house just visible in the background.  The photo below and right, shows the main house, sitting on a peninsula.
