St. Johns Lake

July 2002

After stopping at Lake MacDonald Lodge, we continued our drive along the Going to the Sun Road. There was a short hiking trail at St. Johns Lake which we decided to try.
As we were walking along, I spotted this oddly shaped tree. Obviously, a log had bent it over and the tree continued to grow around it. On our way back I spotted a young deer standing nearby the twisted tree.
One of the benefits we had was having to return to Kalispell for our return flight. What this meant was that we would travel the Going to the Sun Road in both directions. This picture we didn't notice on our east bound travels, but we did see it on the west bound leg. We pulled over, took a short walk down to the water's edge and hopped the rocks out to midstream.
