Logan Pass

July 2002

Chuck at the Continental Divide, Logan Pass, Glacier National Park, Montana
Just a few miles up (literally) the road, we came to Logan Pass - located on the continental divide at 6,680 feet above sea level. While not as high as some of the Colorado crossings of the continental divide, the scenery is equally spectacular, if not more so. It was July and there were still snow removal vehicles in the parking lot of Logan Pass removing the last of the winter snows, opening up more parking space for tourists.

What the photo to the left doesn't show is that there are people hiking through the snow, about 2 miles, behind the peak.

We, or at least I, had considered taking the Hidden Lake Nature Trail at Logan Pass to see the acclaimed view of Hidden Lake. The trail is about 1.5 miles long with a 460 foot rise in elevation. However, I didn't realize it would be 1.5 miles through a snow field. Sorry, not for me - that's why I left Buffalo. Although, there were some hardy souls returning from the trail wearing flip flops with very red feet.
