US / Canadian Border Crossing - Waterton - Glacier International Peace Park

Having lived in a US / Canadian border town for many years, I have a great affinity for Canada. Since the Webster - Ashburton Treaty of 1842, the United States and Canada have shared the longest, undefended international border in the world, a fact of which all Canadians and Americans should be justly proud.

In 1936, Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta and Glacier National Park in Montana were associated to form the Waterton - Glacier International Peace Park. We were about to pay a visit.

Permanently Commemorating the Relationship of Peace and Good Will Long Existing Between the Peoples and Governments of the United States and Canada. Dedicated July 4, 1936

See the caption to the left for the inscription on the marker.

A trademark, of sorts, of my travel websites includes a photo of our rental vehicle. Here I am, in Canada actually, at a scenic overlook in Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta. The view from this spot can be seen below - I call it where the prairie meets the mountains..
