New
Mexico
May 2001
It was late afternoon on May 30, 2001, when I crossed the New Mexico border.  In this land of wide open spaces, this butte can be seen for miles.  This entire area is part of the Navajo Nation / Reservation.  In fact, the Navajo Nation extends across Four Corners into Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico.
The photos, taken thru the windshield, show the long shadows of the late afternoon.  From a geological perspective,
this portion of the country is considered the Colorado Plateau, largely a high flat area with some rolling terrain.  The area is, as you can see, very sparsely populated.
At this point, my travels took me north to Durango, Colorado, but for continunity, I'll continue the web site travels in New Mexico.  If you choose,  you can click on "Durango, Colorado" below, and return to New Mexico later.
