Back to Sunday... After we visited the missions, we took a day trip to the German settlement of Fredricksburg, located about 60 miles northwest of San Antonio. I had heard about Fredricksburg while researching this quick trip. It was an enjoyable town with lots of little shops and restaurants, and getting there gives you an opportunity to see the Texas countryside.

| From Fredricksburg, we headed east, past the home of Lyndon Johnson, the LBJ Ranch. Managed by the National Park Service, it is open for public tours. Unfortunately, we just missed one tour and would have had to wait an hour and one half for the next, and we just didn't have time, so we pushed on east thru Texas Hill Country to the state capital, Austin. |
