It was Friday afternoon after work and suddenly, we came to the realization that we had no plans for the weekend. Well, why not do something a little crazy, and plan, if that's the right choice of words, a quick weekend trip. Well, we had never been to Bermuda - check the weather on cnn.com - rain - so we still haven't been to Bermuda.

More years ago than I care to admit to, I spent some time in San Antonio, Texas while in the U.S. Army. The army aside, I did enjoy San Antonio, having arrived there in February from Buffalo via New Jersey - so you can imagine that San Antonio won the weather contest. I recalled that early May was pretty warm but still pleasant enough to enjoy the outdoors. I had heard good things about San Antonio from other travelers and I thought it could be a fun time. So, Friday evening was spent arranging a Monday vacation day, making flight, hotel, and car reservations. Saturday morning we had a 7AM flight out of Jacksonville, connecting through Dallas, putting us in San Antonio at about 11 AM. By the time we got the rental car and found our way to the hotel, it was about noon. We were on our way. Like all good visitors to San Antonio, we had to see the Alamo. Our hotel was only a couple of blocks away, and after a short walk, we were at the site - originally a Catholic mission, but forever famous for the Battle of the Alamo - the cradle of Texas independence. |
