French Town -
The Pointe Restaurant
Sign for The Pointe Restaurant, French Town, St. Thomas After touring St. John, we took our return trip on the vehicle ferry, the Captain Vic, back to Red Hook, and then back to our hotel to freshen up.

We did the simple dinner on Friday night at the Hard Rock Cafe, and wanted to experience a bit more of the local flavor Saturday evening.

At the suggestion of the hotel concierge, we settled on The Pointe Restaurant, located on the west end of Charlotte Amalie, in the section known as French Town.

This was indeed a unique dining experience.  First, we had to wind through the narrow streets of the west end of town - only good directions kept us on the trail, but we found it without any trouble.  While we were waiting to be seated, we looked over the menu which included the history of the building.  It seems that there had been several owners over many years, and the current restaurant had served as everything from an ambassador's residence to a brothel.
Our dinner was very good and reasonably priced.  While the house has a traditional structure, on the left side an open air addition has been added.  Covered with a metal roof (to catch rain water), awnings are lowered in the event of a passing shower - as occurred during dinner, then raised again to allow the tropical breezes to blow through.  It was very pleasant and surprisingly, no bugs to deal with.
Dinner at The Pointe was the perfect end to a perfect day.
