View from our hotel room
Room with a view
We had a delightful view from the balcony of our room, looking west from Frenchman's Reef, where the hotel is located.  The Caribbean architecture, tropical in nature, is different from that of the mainland.  The roofs of the buildings are often made of metal with eaves and down spouts to collect and store fresh water.
Another architectural feature is the openness of the buildings.  Even though located in the tropics, there are few private homes with air conditioning.  Instead, they have large windows that accommodate the ever present breezes to maintain a tolerable temperature indoors.  The hotel rooms, of course, are air conditioned (thankfully).
The main city on St. Thomas is the town of Charlotte Amalie.  The view below and left, is looking from the north terrace at the hotel across the water into the harbor of Charlotte Amalie, a popular port of call for the cruise lines.   The evening photo, below and right, is taken from the hotel pool area,
Looking north from the hotel towards Charlotte Amalie which has concrete seats extending from the water that allow you to pony up to the bar, while still in the pool. Night view of the Marriott Beach Resort
