Our rental car, a Toyota
Echo, on the north shore of St. Thomas.
If you've seen my other travel sites, you know
the score - "gotta" have a picture of the rental car, and this seemed as
good a place as any to sneak in the picture of our Toyota Echo.
Saturday was going to be our big adventure day
- when we would do most of our traveling, including our plans to go to
St. John, another of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Well, it didn't take
us long to adjust to island speed. We were up at the crack of 9 o'clock,
or so, had a lazy breakfast in the hotel (a great breakfast buffet included
with the room), and then headed towards the east end of St. Thomas to the
village of Red Hook, to catch a ferry over to St. John.
We had planned to catch the 11 AM people
ferry, but (island speed) we missed it - but that turned out to be a good
thing.

St. Thomas and St. John - Captain Vic.

Thomas and St. John - Captain Vic
The people ferry wanted a modest $3 per person each
way - not a bad deal. Howver, as we got out of our car and watched the people
ferry depart, one of the crew from the vehicle ferry, the Captain Vic, came our
way and convinced us to ship our car over and back with him. It was $27
round trip for us and the car compared to $18 and no car with the people ferry.
He told us we would need a car on St. John and he had the better deal. He
was right!
