St. John
Approaching St. Johns, USVI, from aboard the Captain Vic It was a pleasant crossing, and about 20 minutes later, we were approaching port in Cruz Bay on the west end of the island of St. John.  The vehicles exited the ferry under the direction of the crew and in a few minutes we were on our way.  The Virgin Islands and St. John are rich in history and offer a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in this tropical paradise.  The National Park Service has a great pamphlet that describes it all.
U.S. Virgin Islands National Park sign In 1950, the Rockefeller family bought the vast majority of land on St. John and donated it to the Federal Government in 1956 for use as a national park.
It was Saturday, September 29, and we virtually had the island to ourselves.  The roads thru the virgin forests had no traffic.  Parking lots were empty, and when we did stop, we would find only 10 to 20 people scattered across the expanse of the entire beach.  Maybe some people like the crowds and the action, but for us, this was a thoroughly enjoyable get away.
