Beacon Rock
Summit

June 2007

I had made it to the summit of Beacon Rock, standing at the same place as Lewis and Clark - and my hike was remarkably easier, taking no more than 20 or 30 minutes.

Pictured below left is the westward view from the summit, looking downstream towards the Pacific Ocean. It was from this spot Lewis and Clark first observed the tidal influence on the river.

A photo for perspective... looking down and to the east in the early morning sun, are a set of railroad tracks.
