Washington 2007 Columbia River Valley |
|
Between the time of Lewis and Clark and the present day, the Columbia River has been dramatically changed by man, specifically by placing dams in the river for the production of electricity. There are several dams along the river, this one is The Dalles. |
My original plan was to cross the Columbia River at certain points to get a full view of the river but to our pleasant surprise, Interstate 84 (I-84) is located on the southern bank of the Columbia River and affords an unobstructed view of the river and the opposite shore. The Oregon side is also impressive - mountains of similar size butt right up against the eastbound lane providing a view of both mountains and river for a beautiful drive. |
