Washington 2007 Columbia River Valley |
|
It was early afternoon - we had not yet stopped for lunch, so we exited I-84 in Oregon and decided to cross the Bridge of the Gods back to Washington and look for a place to have lunch. The local Tourist Bureau in Stevenson, Washington recommended a couple places for lunch and a hotel for the evening. |
We had passed the hotel entrance on our way into Stevenson, so we decided to stop on our way back and check it out. As it turned out, we had two exceptional hotels on this trip, and Skamania Lodge in Stevenson, Washington was one of them. The photo to the right is from our room, looking across the hotel grounds, towards their golf course with the Columbia River in the background. I've got several photos but if your want to see some professional photos of the hotel and grounds, click here to check out the Skamania Lodge Website. (A separate window will open) |

I guess this was just our lucky day. In addition to finding a great hotel, we also found a great place for dinner. Now you have to understand, Stevenson, Washington is a small town - one main street, a courthouse, and a variety of stores and shops. We checked out the menu at the Big River Grill - it looked interesting, so we went in for dinner. The food was great. The potatoes were first mashed, then had a bunch of other stuff mixed in and pan seared - it was delicious - and they even gave us the recipe. I could go on, but they have their own website telling the story of the restaurant and the history of the town. Click here for the Big River Grill Website - this will also open in a separate window. |
