Central Washington |
| As we approached Yakima, Washington, we could see both a large gulch and a larger bridge to carry traffic over nature's handywork. In the left photo, at the bottom of the gulch you can see a dirt road for ATV's and to the left side of the photo, the creek bed that will rapidly fill (and empty) during the infrequent rains. |

| Mt. Ranier stands
out on the horizon over the flat, irrigated farmlands of central Washington.
The lower right photo symbolizes the vast expanses of arid western United States. On my Arizona web site, I quoted Woody Guthrie who said the further west you walk, across the flat hard crust gravely desert, the browner, hotter, stiller, and emptier the country gets. This photo represents the emptiness of these portions of the American West. Traveling from Yakima to the Columbia River Valley, there was mile after mile of open, dry, and empty country. Amazing in its own right. |
