| Almost heaven, West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River...
such are the lyrics of the John Denver song, Take Me Home, Country Roads.
This photo of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia - the eastern most point of
the state - indeed shows West Virginia in the foreground, the Blue Ridge
Mountains of Virginia to the right of the photo, separated by the Shenandoah
River. Actually, there is even more... off in the distance to the
left, is Maryland.
This is more evident in the photo below. I am standing at the
eastern most point of West Virginia where the Shenandoah River joins the
Potomac, which flows east through Washington, D.C. to the Atlantic Ocean.
As you look at the photo below, the Shenandoah River flows from the right
and the Potomac from the left. From this point on, it is the Potomac.
I am standing in West Virginia. To the left of the photo is Maryland;
to the right is Virginia. |
